From First Impressions to Infinite Possibilities: The BSF-Studio Partnership Story

Step into the creative journey behind our show-stopping BDNY booth with an exclusive conversation between BSF’s Vice President Ken Koneck and Christina Hart, Principal of Studio Partnership. Their collaboration on “Dune: From Sand to Sun” brought together earthbound textures and intergalactic imagination, showcasing the boundless possibilities when visionary design meets masterful execution.

Ken K: How would you compare the experience of designing for the booth versus hotel interiors?

Christina H: Designing for this booth was an incredible opportunity to dream really big, releasing me to huge free thinking. It lets my creative juices explode to remember that almost everything is possible. Designing for a hotel project is similar but depends on the scale and scope. That sets some parameters that may take the super freedom and direct it.

Ken K: How do you come up with inspiration before designing a project?

Christina H: Inspiration for me means I need to get into character. I start with free thinking and use the project’s goals as guide rails. For the booth, the goal I used to steer my imagination was joy. What would bring most people joy (especially at a trade show)? Beach, Sand Dune… NOW, how do we embolden that joyful thought into the stratosphere and send it across the Javits as a beacon? The rest just spills into place—showcasing BSF’s abilities in design, shape, finish possibilities, and more.

Ken K: We gave you a very wide and open creative mandate. How does that affect your process and the result?

Christina H: A wide open mandate allows creative thinking to reach new heights unencumbered. Free thinking is what a designer craves to create things that have never been seen before.

Ken K: When you first began working with BSF, your image of our company was very different. Then, as we began working together with our team, and you learned our processes and procedures, that began to change. What was it like working with BSF?

Christina H: I look for a can-do attitude in collaboration that yields the best design results. BSF brought that to the table in every aspect. There was never a “no,” only a, “Let me look into this and check in with the factory.” BSF are problem solvers and creators of choice. It was an incredible experience.

Ken K: And then, at the end of designing our space, your view of BSF and our capabilities were very different, right?

Christina H: When I first looked at the BSF website, I was not sure why they would want a booth. The furniture had straightforward design sensibilities. I then became aware BSF was ready to break the mold, and your capabilities reached far beyond my expectations as a hospitality furniture manufacturer.
